Spanish
Our word this week was "la". "La" is the equivalent to the but referring to feminime words. This article will become very important as Spanish language does not have a universal article. Now students are able to read and write sentences such as "Soy la _." (I am the _.) This is a great link to go over and read a way better explanation of the function of articles in Spanish. https://www.spanishdict.com/guide/el-or-la-an-introduction-to-spanish-articles Math 0-5, counting, writing and understandingIn math, we have been working on understanding numbers 0-5. Some vocabulary words that we worked on this week were "contar" (count), "orden" (order), "después" (after), "antes" (before) and all the number words "cero", "uno", "dos", "tres", "cuatro", "cinco". These word cards will be in homework binder for you and your child to review. Did you notice how "orden" and order look and sound similar? Words that do that are called COGNATES. I specifically point that out to the students to make them comfortable with learning Spanish. The dot cards above are used to help students learn automaticity. The term that is used to refer to these dot cards is SUBITIZING. There is a lot of research that states that when students see numbers in patterns, the foundation for number sense is stronger. We "play" a game where I show them the cards and they have to tell me how many there are. They have gotten very comfortable with smaller quantities such as 0-4.
